This June St Peter’s Church is celebrating the end of a major programme of repair to the Church building funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund, the Roger De Haan Charitable Trust and the Friends of Kent Churches.
The Blessing of the Fisheries is one of Folkestone’s oldest and most colourful traditions, taking its modern form at St. Peter’s during the early 1890’s. A long procession of members of the fishing community, parishioners, schoolchildren, servers, choirs and clergy from St. Peter’s and other parishes, with the Mayor of Folkestone, Mayors of the Cinque Ports and Civic Dignitaries lead the bishop from the Church to the Stade.
Following the Blessing, all are invited to return to the Church for refreshments.
